John Smedley originally set up his Derbyshire factory during the birth of the industrial revolution in 1784. The site, which still operates today, was chosen for its proximity to the running water that originally powered the factory’s mill. By 1825 the family business had a new, defining vision: To house under one roof everything required to turn the finest quality raw materials into hand-crafted luxury garments. This vision is still in force today.
